Day One of My Academic Endeavor (orig. 1/7/19)

My study nook
This blog is to hopefully inspire someone out there, at any age, to go back to school. Age is just a number which can easily be accessorized with higher education. Instead of investing in one of those fancy Tesla cars, I'm investing in something that will never go out of style: A Master's Degree in Special Education with Advanced Behavioral Analysis.

I'm finally doing it!
Today is the first day working on my Master's Program. It is no easy task since I have been in a highly comfortable routine for the past one thousand years. Doing this online takes a lot of self-discipline and drive. Especially after working two jobs.

Reading on my couch
On day one,  I truly fought the urge to sit on the couch and watch mind-numbing TV, after getting home from work. Instead, I sat in front of the computer in my quiet corner and went online to check my syllabus. There is so much to learn; four chapters and two articles to read, watch 20-minute videos, and sign-up for online webinar sessions. I just kept thinking of my boys and friends saying, "You got this." I think I have it. I can't turn back with the acceptance of the hefty graduate loan and personal commitment.

To my surprise, I ended up reading one full chapter. Afterward, I treated myself with a dose of Vanderpump Rules. Why not?  Before going to bed, I got started on a custom order of a quilt for a client. So much work, so little time!

As I am making huge changes in my daily routine, I am also making changes when it comes to finances. I am more cautious about my spending. For example, during my reading break, I caught myself shopping for watercolor pens on Amazon. I placed them in my shopping cart and logged off. Do I need them? No. Do I want them? Yes. With this said, it is a purchase I will have to leave in my cart for a long time. Good girl.
